Corona Chronicles (Ep.6) - Behind The Curtain

Various speakers, Revelation 4:1 - 4:6, 26 March 2020

When our lives change considerably, we are forced to ask who is really in control? Today's episode looks behind the curtain and reminds us what the sign of the rainbow really means.

Revelation 4:1 - 4:6

4:1 After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that had the appearance of an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and seated on the thrones were twenty-four elders, clothed in white garments, with golden crowns on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, and rumblings and peals of thunder, and before the throne were burning seven torches of fire, which are the seven spirits of God, and before the throne there was as it were a sea of glass, like crystal.

And around the throne, on each side of the throne, are four living creatures, full of eyes in front and behind:

Hello everybody. Welcome back to Corona Chronicles. Our daily dose of revelation. We're in chapter 4 today. And I'm gonna read the first 6 and a half verses.

After this, I looked and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this. At once I was in the spirit and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the 1 who sat there had the appearance of Jasper and Ruby, a rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. Surrounding the throne with 24 other thrones and seated on them with 24 elders.

They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, 7 lamps were blazing. These are the 7 spirits of God. Also in front of the throne, there was what there was what looked like a sea of glass clear as crystal.

I mean, if if there's any message we need today, I mean this is it, isn't it? It's so good. And so I'd finish it. But I love I love I love revelation. You've always got to remember if you read it out.

It's it trump it loud voices and stuff. But here you are, we're we're taken in to a reality that's going on that we often don't see So the opposite of that is the coronavirus deadly little thing. We don't see it. It's in the air and it causes destruction. But Behind this curtain is a throne and there's a powerful 1 sitting on the throne.

And it's being revealed to us. And it's being revealed. We can't see this. But he he sees us. Yeah.

It's it's a bit like it's a bit like where I used to work at the theater. And you know, the audience sits there. It goes dark. The curtain is down and then the curtain opens up and then the stage is revealed. And the spotlight is on 1 center stage.

And this is what's happening. We're we're in the audience. We're seeing all kinds of stuff going on. What's going on? Curtains open up.

Spotlight on center stage, off thrown. Yeah. And it it I mean it's so glorious that that that John feels like he hasn't really got the language to even describe what's going on. So, he reminds me of a of a journalist with his notebook and he's trying to quickly think about it as he's seeing. But he doesn't even have the language to say it properly.

So it's not I don't know if you've ever seen a beautiful landscape and you've looked at it and you've just thought, I don't even have the words to describe how good this is. He's like, well, I saw this. This was like this. It was something like this, but it was better than this. This was like an emerald, and that was like a jasper, and this was a ruby, and this was like a crystal He's trying to he's trying to just capture the the glory of what he's seeing.

Yeah. You know, we could do a little scribbling down at at a scene. It's amazing. This this is some throne, isn't it? The 1, you know, sitting on the throne is is, you know, like a jewel.

Right? And then you've got and you've got this rainbow shining like an emerald encircling the throne. That's a that's a weird rainbow, isn't it? It's a full a full rainbow. And that does actually happen.

Yeah. And and a rainbow stands for lots of stuff -- Yeah. It does here. -- in the bible because when God gave it, see people say Why doesn't God show us a sign? The rainbow is God's signature.

It is his sign because he's saying I'm gonna keep my promises. Yeah. And I'm going to sign in the sky. My promise is his signature. Yeah.

Yeah. And It's 7 colors. Always remember that. There's lots of rainbows around today and they only have 6 colors. 6 is not a good number.

Not in not in revelation. Not in revelation. 7 is the perfect number. So if you're gonna draw a rainbow, make sure it has 7 colors. And and, you know, I mean, on Facebook recently, I saw little post of rainbows.

It's it's really sweet actually. There's loads of kids that are missing their friends, you know, from they've been seeing them for days, schools all out, but there was an idea recently where someone said, look, we're going on a walk, and we're sticking a rainbow up in our in our window. And so the kids are going around, and they're sort of looking up for different, you know Make sure it's got 7000. And also, but God never you know, never breaks a promise. Yeah.

Because he's holding back his judgement. That's what we need to. The rainbow says, we might think this corona is a judgment? Well, in part but God is holding back -- Yeah. -- is full judgment.

Yeah. Yeah. And I think we also learned a bit about how to approach God here, don't we? Not only in chapter 4 but in the whole book. And I reckon you could summarize it as be afraid.

Don't be afraid. Yeah. Yeah. You know, so in chapter 1, John falls on his face as though dead, you know, he's rightly afraid of the son of man, but he says don't be afraid. And here you've got a similar language.

In verse 5, this is the kind of be afraid language, isn't it? From the throne came flashes of lightning rumblings and peels of thunder, you know, they're supposed to be trembling like they would have done at the foot of Mount Sinai as the law descends upon the mountain and brings his word. But equally, don't be afraid because this is your covenant God. He has rescued you. He has redeemed you.

And then he goes on and talks about the sea of glass. Yeah. Yeah. And and so Yeah. Bob, it's it's that the the was it Jesus can't the storm, isn't it?

Yeah. You know, it's his quiet be still. And and and the sea is dead calm. Yeah. Because because the rumblings reminds us of the word of God that came from Mount Sinai.

Yeah. And when the word of God comes in its power, Yeah. Yeah. Let's see it a lot. Yeah.

So I mean, be afraid, don't be afraid. I don't know, like, there there might be a everyone's afraid a bit bit, you know, worried 1, aren't they? Everyone's a bit afraid. Yeah. You know, what what's going on?

And and the kids especially, they might just be you know, they're sort of they're listening, they're taking it all in. They might not be sort of expressing it like we are, but but, you know, everybody can take heart from from Well, that's why the kids have got to know that they they are they are rainbow children. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

You need to be rainbow children, 7, member. Yeah. Because the 24 elders are around the throne. Yeah. And they have thrones.

What was that what's that what? Well, 24 elders you get 12 tribes of Israel, 12 disciples of Jesus and apostles. 12 plus 12 is 24. In other words, all the people of God through all the centuries are there around the throne. It's gonna be in demand.

What what a homeschooler is gonna be? Yeah. Yeah. Well, there'll be certain people that won't matter. Yeah.

12 plus 12 24, all of people have got So if you're a rainbow warrior, I mean, a real 1 and that means you're a follower of the Lord Jesus with 7 colors. Then you're gonna be represent you're representing around this throw, so you're safe. Yeah. Brilliant. I mean, well, I think we should solve it.

Really? Yeah. No.
